Alexis Augusto
Alexis Augusto is an artist working across various mediums such as print, film, sound and performance. The practice is centred around the exploration of queer imagery, its thresholds of visibility and its intersections with the complex infrastructures of contemporary society.
Deploying various forms of abstraction and constructed situations as a form of resistance and resilience but also as a symptom of ceaseless accumulation processes, the works are visually striking, oppressive and at times removed, inviting viewers to engage with queer themes and experiences, as well as questioning the audience's relationship with the consumption of imagery. Collaboration is central to this practice that overlaps mediums, working with musicians, dancers, performers and actors in order to produce installations and performances.
